Regional Senior Fours winners from the Young Club. L to R: Margaret Gailey (skip), Elsie Hines (third), Heather Bailey (second) and Judith Mulligan (lead).

Congratulations to the Young Senior Fours team who won the Regional Play-off at the Wagga RSL Club last week. Judith Mulligan, Heather Bailey, Elsie Hines and Margaret Gailey played really well as a team defeating Condobolin 19/9 followed by a win against Leeton 28/10. The Young team now contest the State finals at Malua Bay in February next year.

The Open Fours team from Young (Sheila Traynor, Jill Rosen, Therese Ruhl and Kate Cooper) was not so lucky, being beaten by Wagga RSL 21/11 but managed a draw with Lake Cargelico after having to play an extra end because of a previous dead end. The score at this stage was 19/18 Young’s way. Unfortunately for Young, the Lake team gained a point which meant a draw, so Young ended up runners-up to Wagga RSL. A good effort.

Also last week, Judith and Terry Mulligan from the Young club played against Margaret Townsend and Bill Spletter from Temora Recreation Club in the Regional Mixed Pairs Play-off. The Temora team won the 1st set of 5 ends 5/1 and the second set 10/6 so they contest at State finals. A good effort by Judith and Terry to get to that level.

At social bowls last Thursday, 29th October, Zita Farrell and Sheila Traynor had a good win in their pairs game against Ann Gardner and Judy Watson with a 20-point win to 12. Also playing was Heather Bailey and Kate Cooper, who enjoyed a close win of 14/13 against Therese Ruhl and Kathryn Betcher. Zita and Sheila won the Club vouchers with the best margin.

The second round of the Summer League competition was held at Young on Sunday, 1st November. In section 1, Harden Hawks beat Cootamundra Mixed Girls while Young Cherryettes beat Young Herz. In section 2, Forever Young had a win against Boorowa Sweathearts and Grenfell Girls beat Slightly Biased (Young).

Entries for the Club Mixed Pairs Championships are now open and close 15th November with entry fee $5 per player. Information is on the Club notice board.
