There has been lots of bowls over the past week. On Thursday 14th the ladies held a very successful President’s Day.

Twelve teams of three played two nine end games of triples. It was a social day, beautiful weather and lots of prizes. Teams came from Harden, Boorowa, Cootamundra Ex-Services, Grenfell and Cowra.

Play started at 10 am with the traditional “spider” where money raised goes to a charity, and ended at 1 pm in time for a lovely lunch.

Prizes went to the following people:
Resting touchers: Mim (Cowra) Ellenor (Coota Ex), Judith (Cowra)
Nearest the spider: June Kiernicke (Cowra)
SWD President’s bowl: Lorraine Bailes (Boorowa)
Young President’s bowl: Rosemary Walter (Grenfell)
Lucky door prize: Yvonne Murphy
Raffle: Therese Ruhl, Heather Bailey, Joe Bargwanna. 100 Club Harry Coulson.

The winning team for the day was Robyn Tierney, Ann Gardner, Jill Rosen (Young).

Runners-up were Sonia Corcoran, Judy Watson, Janice Roberts (SWD team).

Over the weekend the State and Senior Triples Championships took place at Boorowa. On the Saturday morning the semi–final of the State Triples was played. Kelly Daley’s team from Harden played Yvonne Murphy’s team from Boorowa. The result was Harden 29 defeated Boorowa 16. In the other match Judith Mulligan’s team from Grenfell played Anne-Marie Phillis’s team from Harden. Grenfell 29 defeated Harden 17.

The Final took place in the afternoon with Grenfell (Julie Wood, Kathryn Betcher, Judith Mulligan) playing Harden (Samantha Bowerman, Dianne Peisley, Kelly Daley). Grenfell 26 defeated Harden 19 so the Grenfell ladies are the South West District State Triples Champions. Congratulations.

The Senior Triples had more entries - so more matches. On Saturday morning Young (Sheila Traynor, Jill Rosen, Robyn Apps) played Cootamundra Ex-Services (Joan Cummins, Ellenor Armstrong, Freda Hambrook) with Cootamundra 22 defeating Young 16.

In the other game Cootamundra Ex-Services (Lyn Fisher, Carolyn Buchanan, Lorraine Evelyn) played another Cootamundra Ex-Services team (Marsha Phillips, Diana Buchanan, Janice Roberts). Lorraine Evelyn’s team 30 defeated Janice Roberts’ team 21.

A Boorowa and Young team had a bye.

In the afternoon the semi-finals took place. The two Cootamundra Ex-Services team had to play each other- Freda Hambrook’s team 26 defeated Lorraine Evelyn’s team 18.

In the other game Boorowa (Barbara West, Maureen Westbury, Lorraine Bailes) played Young (Elsie Hines, Heather Bailey, Margaret Gailey) with Young scoring 27 shots to Boorowa’s 14.

The Final took place on Sunday morning between Cootamundra Ex-Services (Joan Cummins, Ellenor Armstrong, Freda. Hambrook) and Young (Elsie Hines, Heather Bailey, Margaret Gailey).

The result was a very convincing win to Young by 29 to 6 This means Young are the South West District Senior Triples Champions and play in the Regional playoffs in Wagga in a few weeks. Congratulations ladies!
