Young and Region Farmers Markets were proud to donate $1000 each to four local charity organisations on Saturday.

The organisations were Boys to the Bush, Motor Neurone Disease Group, Young Conservatorium of Music and Margaret House Young Crisis Accommodation Centre.

Secretary Beverly Moloney said, “We are very pleased this year to be presenting $1000 to four local organizations.”

“We thank the wonderful organizations for the amazing work they do in our community.”

The Farmers Markets have been showcasing local produce and products for fifteen years. The Markets were originally set up by primary producers to provide the local community with fresh locally grown produce such as fruit, veges, eggs, honey, flowers, plants, meat, jams and sauces, wines and more.

As the number of producers attending the market with their produce dropped, it was decided to introduce homemade crafts including handmade jewellery, sewing, crochet, 3D printed items, woollen products, printed items, artwork, sandalwood products, floral arrangements, plants, bulbs, quilling, iron craft and a variety of other crafts.

There are now 40 stalls registered with the not for profit markets and the fee they pay allows the organisation to make donations to local charitable organisations each year.

Young and Region Farmers Markets are held on the first and third Saturday of each month from 9am til 12 noon in Anderson Park near the Visitors Centre.

“We welcome all visitors to browse the markets. As well as the produce for sale there is hot food, BBQ and/or Filipino hot food and coffee available.”

“The markets are always looking for new stalls so if you grow produce of any kind or make craft items please contact us through Facebook or by phoning Bev 0491 150 940.”
