Young local’s haircut with heart

Young local Sophie Apps had a haircut with a difference recently when she donated the hair to charity Hair with Heart.

Sophie had four ponytails lopped off, all of which were 36cm long, at Urban Hair and Beauty in Young on the 18th of July. The ponytails will be used by Hair with Heart, part of Variety, the children’s charity, to make a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition.

“I went in Saturday for a simple haircut, but that haircut will change the life of a child in need,” said Sophie.

“It has always been a goal of mine to give my hair to a charity that would be able to gift it to a child who isn’t as privileged as I am.”

Sophie also beat her fundraising goal twice. She initially had a goal of $1500, which was surpassed in May, so a new goal of $3000 was set. Sophie has since surpassed that goal, raising $3118 for Variety, the children’s charity.
