Last Tuesday, 8th October, the Young/Cowra Challenge took place at Young Bowling Club. This is an annual event and competition between the two clubs is always strong. There were 6 teams of triples playing from each club. Unfortunately, rain prevented the 18 ends being completed but 12 ends was enough to recognise the winners. Young won the shield after gaining 78 points against Cowra’s 56 points. A very enjoyable day.

Harden and District Bowling Club hosted its President’s Day, as well as celebrating their 60th birthday, on Saturday, 12 October. Teams from the South West District were in attendance as well as two out-of- District teams, Yass and Wagga Rules Bowling Clubs, in attendance.

The Young team of Jill Rosen, Ann Gardner and Heather Bailey had a win of 16/9 against Yass but lost by 1 shot to Grenfell. Boorowa Ex- Services Club was the winning team on the day.

On Sunday 13th October, the 2019/20 Summer League State competition commenced. Two sections of 4 teams from the District will compete each Sunday for 6 weeks at Young Bowling Club commencing at 2pm.

Results of the 1st round
Section 1: Grenfell Dynamics defeated Harden Hawks 12/10; Young Ones defeated Coota Cats 19/10. Section 2: Young Cherry Blossoms defeated Harden Hunnies 21/9 and Boorowa Roses defeated Grenfell Golden Girls 13/8. The format of the game of 2 bowl Triples and 15 ends makes for a good quick game.

Best wishes to Sheila Traynor, Margaret Glasheen and Judy Watson who are competing in the Friendly Games at West Wyalong Tuesday and Wednesday 15/16 October. Also 6 mixed pairs teams from Young are heading to Gundagai’s ‘Dave and Mabel’ tournament on Wednesday and Thursday this week. No doubt there will be great competition and fun.
