What a week of bowling!
The South West District Singles Championship was held at Young last Wednesday and Thursday, resulting in an amazing effort by popular Club member Ann Gardner beating some of the top players to take out the Championship. For someone who took 10 years before winning the Club Minor Singles, this was indeed an extraordinary effort on Ann’s part. Her calmness, concentration and consistency gave her the edge over her opponents.
In the 1st round on Wednesday morning, Ann beat Margo Parker 25/21 and went on to beat Elsie Hines in the afternoon 25/22. In the semi-final on Thursday morning, Ann had a good win over Judith Mulligan with a score of 25/8. The final in the afternoon was a very close result with Ann having a win over Betty Cleveland from Cootamundra Country Club 25/24. Congratulations Ann on a mighty effort.
The Club Pairs Championship concluded last Friday. Heather Bailey and Judith Mulligan had a narrow win over Jenny Holt and Kate Cooper going into the last end 15 all. Heather and Judith managed to gain the 1 point needed to win. In the afternoon, the final was played with Heather and Judith opposed to Elsie Hines and Margo Parker. Some very good bowls were put down by both teams but Heather and Judith managed a victory with the score 23/18. Well done!
The Club Singles Championship will be played this Wednesday and Thursday and no doubt some excellent bowls will be played.
The SWD Open Pairs Championship begins on Saturday 25 July at Harden and the Senior Pairs will begin at Young, Wednesday, 29th July.
