Last week, weeks of dance practice and fundraising culminated in gala performances for this year’s Stars of Young, Dance for Cancer.

This year’s event was incredibly successful, raising $113 000 for the Cancer Council. 240 people attended Thursday’s performance and 340 attended on Friday.

Winning the Judges Choice by one vote were Dick Cummins and David Coombes (from Ray White Real Estate).

The People’s Choice on Thursday night was won by Adrian Capra (Art of Espresso) and on Friday night by Kyle McGovern (electrician) by $5 from Keith Duran (Young High School Principal).

Highest fundraiser went to David Hamblin with $15,000.

Fundraising efforts before the gala performances raised an outstanding $71,000. “The generosity of the Young community was overwhelming,” said Christine Williams, Cancer Council Relationships Coordinator.

“The people of Young need to be congratulated. This town is full of people who support each other and that was the key to the success of Stars. The dedication of the Stars to not only take the time to learn and practice a dance routine, but to fundraise over and over again was inspirational.”

Stars of Young, Dance for Cancer 2020 will be held on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 June.
